Representative Danny K. Davis (D-IL07) today introduced legislation to increase the maximum age to qualify for coverage as a ‘‘child’’ under the health benefits program for Federal employees from 22 to 25.  Original
co-sponsors include Reps. Cummings, Norton, Connolly, Maloney and Moran.

Davis stated, “”As the longest recession since the Great Depression continues to drag on, more and more families are facing extreme hardship.  A recent study documented that more than 60% of bankruptcies were the result of medical expenses.  The damage to the health of families and associated social costs extend beyond the direct costs.  It is our hope that this legislation will reduce the cost, and lighten the burden of health care for federal workers while extending health protection for their families.”
