The Future of All AFGE Members Is On The Line

President George W. Bush has ordered federal agencies to compete, convert or privatize 42,500 jobs in FY 2002, 85,000 jobs in FY 2003 and a cumulative total of 425,000 federal jobs by the end of calendar year 2004. The OMB directive applies to all agencies. No one can assume that their job is safe. If we don’t challenge the contractors and their supporters in Congress at least 425,000 federal employees are in danger of losing their jobs to private contractors over the next four years.

You Can Make A Difference

Congress sets the laws governing contracting out. We can change those laws by electing members of Congress who will fight to protect federal employees. The same is true with wages and benefits or funding for the agencies we work for. We can win better wages, better benefits and increased funding for agency budgets by electing members of Congress who will support us on these issues. Your contribution to AFGE-PAC helps AFGE build the political power we need to elect members of Congress we can count on.
The money that you and other AFGE members voluntarily contribute to AFGE-PAC is only used to re-elect current members of Congress or candidates for Congress who are committed to protecting the jobs and future of federal employees. The fact that AFGE-PAC is growing is one of the reasons why we have 186 cosponsors on our TRAC Bill in the House (H.R. 721) and 18 cosponsors in the Senate (H.R. 1152). AFGE-PAC also helped us to win pay increases, rollback retirement contributions and increase funding for federal agencies. The bigger our PAC, the more we can show support for our friends and help un-elect those who are working against us.

If You Don’t Make A Difference, The Contractors Will

Corporate contractors and other opponents of federal employees aren’t sitting on the sidelines. They’re raising and spending their PAC money to elect members of Congress who are committed to eliminating our jobs and dismantling the programs we have worked so hard to build. We’ve got to build AFGE-PAC so that we can fight fire with fire.
